Gentle Oaks

Gentle Oaks is the name we use for all the daytime groups which meet at Oak House during the week. These groups are safe places where our priority is to make sure people feel welcome. We want people to feel able to come and ‘be’ without feeling pressured to join in. There are things going on, but you are equally welcome to simply hang out with us all! Each day has a slightly different focus and is aimed at specific groups of people. Please contact us if you’d like some advice on which day may be best for you.

Oak House is our community house at 6, Elmridge, Skelmersdale WN86AH.

It is open in the morning every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Tuesdays:  Open Oaks is from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. though you can drop in any time you don’t have to be there the whole time. Whether you just need a comfy space to sit, chat and drink tea, or whether you would like to join in the various activities that happen, you are welcome. The activities usually include cooking, craft and gardening/practical jobs as we attempt to make our neighbourhood more beautiful. At 12.00 noon we stop to pray for 10 minutes  before having lunch together about 12.15 p.m. (lunch is free, but donations are welcome) Anyone welcome, any week. Just drop-in!

Wednesdays:  10.00 – 11.45 a.m. Wednesday is Toddler Oaks and it caters for parents, grandparents or carers of pre-school age children and those who used to have pre-school age children! Come along for a cup of tea and toast and a chat. There are toys and games for the children, and a kind and friendly welcome for everyone.

Thursdays: 10.00-1.00pm. Creative Oaks is for women only, a safe place to be together, have a chat, and a chance to be creative. Each week we gather around and read a short passage from the bible together, and think about what we think it is saying to us. We then respond by creating some art together – either drawing or painting, jewellery making… the possibilities are endless! Even the least creative person is invited to have a go! At 12 noon we break for optional midday prayer, and then eat lunch together. Lunch on Thursdays is ‘bring and share’, but if you’ve not been able to bring you can still share.

Fridays: 9.30 – 11.30 a.m. Just as with Wednesdays this is a weekly group for toddlers and their carers this drop-in caters for those with pre-school age children and those who used to have pre-school age children! Come along for a cup of tea and toast and a chat whether your kids are in school now or not.
